Empire Cake, a gourmet American-style bakery in Chelsea and Greenwich Village, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Front of House Manager to oversee the daily operations of our independently owned bakery . The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for hospitality, ensuring that our guests receive exceptional service while maintaining a well-organized front-of-house environment. This role requires a blend of management expertise, food industry knowledge, and a commitment to exceptional customer service.
Empire Cake brings you the best in American baking with a gourmet twist. We feature fresh-baked cakes, cupcakes, cookies, breakfast pastries, brownies and bars, and sophisticated versions of classic snack treats, including our own “twinkies,” “snowballs” and Swiss rolls, as well as decorated custom cakes.
Responsibilities
* Maintains exceptional standards of professionalism and hospitality
* Manage FOH employees in their daily responsibilities, providing clear, effective direction
* Responsible for hiring and training new FOH staff
* Communicates daily with BOH managers and Cake Consultants to ensure FOH and BOH team leaders and supervisors are aligned for expected business needs
* Develops a strong and positive rapport with both staff and guests alike
* Drives positive results and aligns with business goals
* Maintains safe, secure, and healthy facility environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with health and legal regulations; maintaining security systems
* Assist other managers (Cake Consulting, Kitchen, Decorating Departments) when needed
* Ensure that all Empire Cake policies and procedures are followed, maintaining the highest quality and consistent product standards
* Conduct DOH walk-throughs multiple times per day when on duty to ensure DOH compliance; Address all DOH violations immediately
* Serves as trainer and educator, as well as an inspirational, committed, and responsible leader to the bakery’s front-of-house teams
* Ensures the delivery of superior customer service through effective staff training and education
* Actively participates in the mentorship and support of all team members, promoting interdepartmental collaboration, teamwork, and a positive daily work environment
* Build morale and team spirit by fostering a work environment where team members’ input is encouraged
Requirements
* Proven experience in hospitality management or a similar role within the food industry
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
* Knowledge of food preparation processes and standards
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with guests and staff
* Familiarity with budgeting practices related to food management
* Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
* Previous experience with interviewing candidates is preferred
* A passion for delivering outstanding hospitality experiences
* Demonstrates positive leadership characteristics, which inspire team members to meet and exceed standards
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
* Attention to detail, solution-driven, and self-starting
* Must have or be willing to obtain NYC Food Handler’s license
* Ability to work on your feet for a full shift and lift 30+ lbs
* Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously and for extended periods as required to perform essential job functions
* Polished personal presentation
* Ability to perform position responsibilities effectively under pressure, maintaining professionalism and positivity always
* Attends mandatory meetings including staff meetings, leadership meetings, etc.
* Adhere to all HR policies and procedures
* Ability to utilize traditional software programs such as Gmail, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), POS systems, and any additional systems as needed)
